In Central Australia, a sporting oval is more than just a patch of grass; it is a community hub that must withstand the rigours of the desert climate and the demands of high-intensity use.

At MPH Projects, we are proud to announce that construction has officially commenced on the Paul Fitzsimons Oval Redevelopment, a project focused on durability, modern technical standards, and regional logistics.

The Project Scope: More Than a Face-Lift

This redevelopment is a complete infrastructure overhaul funded by the Australian Government’s Priority Community Infrastructure Program in partnership with the Alice Springs Town Council. Our brief is to transform the site into a premier facility capable of hosting major community and sporting events.

The key engineering and construction milestones for this project include:
A Multi-Functional Clubhouse: Construction of a professional-grade pavilion featuring dedicated home and away changing rooms, umpires' facilities, a modern canteen/kiosk, and secure storage.
Specialised Sports Lighting: Installation of new training light towers, engineered to provide safe, high-visibility illumination to extend the venue's operational hours during the hotter months.
Civil Infrastructure: Significant upgrades to car parking and pedestrian thoroughfares to ensure the site can safely manage the logistics of large match-day crowds.
Climate-Responsive Amenities: New spectator seating and shade structures designed with structural steel to provide maximum thermal protection and longevity.

We are working closely with the Federal Sporting Club, who championed this project from the outset, to ensure the final build meets the specific needs of local athletes.

The ribbon has officially been cut on the transformative Newland Park Regional Skate and Play Precinct, delivering a fresh, vibrant and inclusive recreational destination for the Alice Springs community just in time for summer.

This landmark project, led by MPH Projects, brings together world-class design and thoughtful consultation to create a space where recreation, wellbeing and connection thrive.

A Precinct Designed for Everyone

Built on the foundations of extensive community input and collaboration with local stakeholders, Newland Park has been shaped with people of all ages and lifestyles in mind. The precinct features:

A state-of-the-art regional skate park, offering a dynamic space for skateboarders, BMX riders and scooter enthusiasts to hone their skills and express themselves.
A 3×3 basketball court for games, casual play and social sport experiences.
A pump track that keeps the adrenaline flowing and encourages riders to build confidence across multiple disciplines.
A dedicated dog park so four-legged friends can enjoy fresh air and play.
Open green spaces, shade structures, barbecue areas and accessible toilets that make the precinct ideal for gatherings, events and relaxed weekends outdoors.

With expanded car parking and inclusive design features throughout, Newland Park isn’t just a destination for locals — it’s poised to attract visitors from across Central Australia.

Built With Purpose, Backed by Partnership

The precinct represents a powerful collaboration between all three levels of government and MPH Projects’ hands-on leadership in delivery. Supported by:

$4 million from the Australian Government’s Priority Community Infrastructure Program,
$1.8 million from the Northern Territory Government, and
$2.8 million from Alice Springs Town Council

This $8.6 million build has also supported up to 40 local jobs, reinforcing MPH Projects’ commitment to community-led outcomes.

According to Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King, the space offers more opportunities for visitors, school groups and sporting events — and “might even mean a few extra skateboards under local Christmas trees this year.”

Coming Soon: Newland Street Skate Park — A Game-Changing Social Hub

The Regional Skate & Play Precinct at Newland Park , is shaping up to be Alice Springs’ newest communal heartbeat in 2025.

Designed with the community’s voice front and centre, this is truly a space by locals, for locals.

Not just a skate park, but a multi-generational beacon: featuring bowls, rails, ramps, a BMX pump track, play area, ball court, bouldering wall, dog park, BBQ and gathering zones.

Construction has officially begun, the sod was turned in early 2025 amid much enthusiasm. Target completion: late 2025.

The project is a collaboration across three government levels, drawing on $4 m from the Australian Government, $1.8 m from the NT Government and $2.8 m from the Alice Springs Town Council.

Expected to generate around 31 local jobs during construction, underscoring its lasting value to the community.

The guest experience at Longitude 131° is immersive, indulgent, and unforgettable. In a world-first, the team faced the challenge of transporting staff and cement products via helicopter due to the remote and rugged terrain of the area. Additionally, extreme summer heat significantly reduced the lifting capacity of the helicopter, requiring the establishment of color-coded "helipads" atop the canyon to ensure precise and efficient delivery of freight.
